Artist Statement

I adopted various ways to create my works including painting, illustration, visual design, video editing and website. I prefer using collage, sketching and other ways to demonstrate stories, settings and characters. To better create my works, I would pay more attention to the daily life like people’s troubles and conflicts. By exploring the relationship between events and painting, I can make my works more meaningful and profound. I also apply materials like propylene to help me with my works. Besides, I am fascinated by the vivid folk crafts from traditional Chinese culture whose delicate patterns inspire me a lot, and I combine those patterns with the new fashion trends to create.

The inspiration of my works stems from my critical perspectives and skepticism about real life. I wish to express myself through art and ignite people’s reflection on themselves and even the society. The space we are in is objective, absolute and infinite in general, but at the same time it enjoys diverse, relative and finite features in its specific forms. Therefore it can be said that space actually influences every aspect of human civilization. I hope to build a multi-dimensional world full of curiosities through my works. By connecting the time I am currently in to some time and places of the past and the future, diverse possibilities are formed which in turn become the inspirations of my works.

While using traditional media, I am also trying to combine it with modern technology and art that are rapidly evolving in today’s world. For instance, I made videos using collage editing and programmed websites. In the future, I hope to use more digital media and interactive methods to create avant-garde art that is relevant to today's society and to present a new way to express art. I hope that in this process I can explore how to let the audience understand the artist's thinking and concepts through art, and at the same time how to provoke them to think about their own lives. Thus, discussion can be provoked with questions raised and the stereotypes can be hopefully broken.
